We are a grassroots group of transgender, nonbinary, and gender diverse individuals and their loved ones who seek to build community for gender diverse folx and their loved ones. We provide opportunities to connect with community through our in person meetings, and virtual spaces, and come together to provide community sourced resources, feedback, insight, assistance, and more. This is not a professionally-run support group but rather a space to build community with each other.
We are a diverse group of gender diverse people, family members, friends and allies in the Kingston/Katarokwi Ontario area. We gather at least twice a month to share stories and experiences, provide peer support, and assist each other in navigating various challenges. Our meetings often involve a check in, group discussion, small breakout/1:1 discussions, board games and social time, and snacks provided by TFam and attendees.
TransFamily Kingston was started in 2012 by a few people looking for the support of others who shared similar experiences. It has continued to grow and evolve dynamically. TransFamily Kingston embraces and accepts anyone who is gender diverse and any family members searching for support or more information. We provide a safe and all-inclusive environment for group meetings, discussions, and sharing of experiences.
Monthly Meetings
Meetings are usually on Saturdays (biweekly) from 1-4 pm near downtown Kingston/Katarokwi. One of these meetings is open to only gender diverse folx, and the other one is open to gender diverse folx and loved ones.
Other Gatherings
Supporting Transgender Day of Remembrance (TDOR-Nov).
Celebrating with a winter gathering (Dec).
Gathering over the summer months for outdoor park BBQs (June-August)
Supporting and advertising other gender diverse relevant gatherings in town (Song Circle)
Members of our group who share similar interests often form friendships and meet for other activities outside of the monthly TransFamily Kingston meetings.
We are active in the Kingston community and some of our members participate at events such as Pride Weekend, The Reelout Film Festival, The Skeleton Park Festival, Queer Prom, Transgen

We are a source of information for other members of the community and service providers. We have members with diverse lived experiences who serve as educators/speakers to other groups, organizations, institutions, businesses and more. If you are seeking a speaker(s) please reach out to our email or message us on Instagram. Proceeds from speaking engagements support gender diverse individuals and TFam.

This year we hope to use donations to support our growth, offering improved programming/more events, and invest in a button maker & supplies to offer pronoun and affirmation buttons.
For many years TFAM has been a big part of the yearly Pride parade and affiliated events and activities. Beyond a growing number turning out walk in the Parade we also set up a booth. Members of our group are guest speakers and are involved in the planning of Pride throughout the year as Pride board members, and many members of TFAM volunteer with events surrounding Pride.
TransFamily Kingston has hosted crafting events in the past such as paint nites, and holiday themed ornament decorating. These events are open to all members of TFAM, and are often PWYC (pay what you can/by donation). These events provide a space to catch up with other community members while making art. These events are open to all members of TFAM, and are often PWYC (pay what you can/by donation). These events provide a space to catch up with other community members while making art. Often TFAM will construt kits/prepare materials required. During Covid-19 we have been delivering art kits and tuning in on Zoom to craft and hang out together. Follow the TFAM Facebook page for updates on future events or to request an event!
TransFamily Kingston has been involved in the Transgender Day of Remembrance for many years, and often our members attend or are speakers at the event, and/or lead the vigil in collaboration with other community groups.
TransFamily Kingston members run a Discord and may host informal games nights online through this social media such as on Jackbox Games. For more information please visit the TFAM Facebook group.
Within our community clothing gets handed around where it's needed, and one such event that provided an opportunity for free clothing was a clothing donation drive where members of TFAM donated clothing and people were able to visit a "garage sale" type set up where they could take what was needed. This event was lovingly organized by a member of TFAM.
We meet 2+ times per month for an opportunity to share experiences and support one another. For more details, send us a message from the contact section at the bottom of the page. Please share a bit of information about yourself in your message.
